Bourbon County Brand Single Barrel Stouts continue to remind us that no two barrels are ever the same. Because each cask offers its own unique expression, every single bottle tells a different story. Back in March, the Beer Bazaar team tasted through multiple single casks of Bourbon County Brand Stout. Consequently, one specific barrel stood out immediately from the rest.
We selected an exceptional cask from Four Roses Distillery. Specifically, it was a 7-Year OBSV bourbon barrel. The imperial stout spent a massive 36 months aging exclusively in this single wooden cask. This process stands in sharp contrast to the Original Stout, which ages in a massive blend of different barrels. Therefore, this liquid represents a pure, unblended expression of a legendary bourbon recipe.
Flavor Profile and Taproom Release Details
Because the beer spent three full years in oak, the results are absolutely spectacular. The unique microclimate inside the barrel brings rich marshmallow, heavy char, and deep oak character straight to the forefront. Furthermore, it completely hides its high alcohol content behind a velvety texture, resulting in an incredibly smooth finish.
